i don't know if people have already mentioned this but a good way to start
if you can't find any black or clear leader and want a clean slate is to get
any already developed film and strip the emulsion off of it to have a base
you can draw or paint on. you can hand scratch it off with various things
like razor blades or the like which can create interesting patterns to work
with but there are also a number of ways to strip the entire emulsion off by
soaking it or scrubbing areas, i've used bleach and water mixtures before,
don't know if there is something better, everyone has their own technique.
but it is a good way to start.
