To diverge here for a moment from the video vs film debate.
Are there artists either historically or contemporarily, that work in between these two media? In sound you will often here of engineers bouncing audio to tape and then back to digital in order to give it "warmth" etc. Can anyone list some filmmakers who do this kind of interchange in the work they do?
I am not talking about shooting in video and just printing a film copy or making a video conversion of film print but someone who interchangeably integrates both film and video together into their practice?
I would be interested in seeing work that can play to both of the set of strengths inherent in these forms.
Any suggestions?
