I once projected onto translucent shower curtain liner with
surprisingly decent results (although you do tend to get a 'hot spot'
in the middle). But the liner itself was around 8' x 8' and cost
about $5. (The downside is that it's generally sold folded up, so you
get creases in the material if it isn't stretched over a surface)
