I definitely second Adam Beckett's films--we showed Flesh Flows at
FLEX a few years ago, and it's like Altered States times a million.

Also, in a very different mode, I'd say Leighton Pierce has spent a
lifetime making "shapeshifting" work in the sense that images flow
into others in very complicated ways, and nothing is ever very solid
for long. His recent video work seems to emphasize this perhaps even
more than his 16mm films, but it's definitely in the celluloid work as
well (even if the film technology resists a bit more).
