I believe that happens in Ophuls's "The Earrings of Madame de..." (with the
eponymous earrings making the rounds), while "La Ronde" is a series of
interlinked love affairs, where what gets passed around is perhaps desire,
or power, or venereal disease - in the interpretation of the much later,
more obscure film "Chain of Desire," made from the same Arthur Schnitzler
play.
