Tarnation is an extraordinary film in at least the following ways

- it exhibits an exceptionally high degree of narcissism

- it's not really about his mother at all, though that's what so many people
claim

- it indulges in the worst habits of ramshackle music-image mashing that
shouldn't be encouraged (the extraordinary part being this: people encourage
it)

- we do see extraordinary footage of the young maker/drag star jonathan
