Barbara and Jud and All,
    "Captured: a film/video history of the lower east side" is opening my
eyes about that scene, including Jud's wonderful memoir. It's a few pages
--not enough-- covering his early career and overlapping with a lot of
familiar and unfamiliar artists.
    I'm only at page 80 of 586, but it's inspiring.

    Captured was discussed on the Frameworks list back in Sept 05, but here
are some details (I'm not connected to these people at all. I'm just
happened on it at Quimby's here in Chicago.)
