You can also use a Digital-8 (D8) camera to do this. It will should play back Hi 8 tapes and send them through firewire in the same format as DV; i.e. DV NTSC 720x480 29.97fps 48KHz sound. Probably easier than running a Hi8 cam through a DV cam.

Make sure you set the sound to 48 khz, i think 32khz is the other option which can cause hiccups in video timelines.
