Perhaps the idea is that celluloid images and old analog video images
have something in common that they don't share with digital video
images. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me, as cellphone camera
video and high-res Hollywood video seem about as different as can be.

I find the word "photochemical" and the phrase "photochemical
processes" useful in terms of the issues you are raising.
