I suspect you won't be able to just buy one. Super16 is generally not considered to be a projectable format. Although there are Super16 projectors out there, often in places like test screening theatres and stuff, they are very rare. Super 16 tends to be more geared for telecine or even digital intermediate for a 35mm finish. There may even be optical printers out there that handle Super16. I've never heard of a single festival with a Super16 projector however.

The lack of sound in Super16 is probably the traditional reason why it's not thought of as a projection format, although obviously for experimental film thats often no big deal!

You could modify the gate yourself or find a jeweler to do the work for you. Obviously having done this work the gate will no longer be masked correctly for standard 16, which I'm guessing might mean the soundtrack would get projected on the screen for films with sound! Could be kind of wild! ;)

I suspect finding pre-cut S16 projector gates might be near impossible however.

love

Freya

Cheers,

Esperanza.
