Bit Torrent is not a good means to transfer files from one individual to another. It's a file sharing system. Instead of storing a file on a central server, with the recipient downloading the actual file from one place (like Rapidshare, Dropbox, etc.), the end user downloads a tiny 'torrent' file: a set of instructions about how to find the file out in the cloud. When you open the torrent file in a BitTorrent client (such as UTorrent or Vuze) it begins to download the file from as many people as it can find who have that file on their computer, are connected to the net, and also have a BitTorrent client running (this is called 'seeding'). It takes a bit here, a bit there. BitTorrent is heavily used in piracy since there is no central server that can be taken down. Popular files just float through the cloud, always being uploaded and downloaded by a number of users. The little instruction torrent files are hosted on websites called 'trackers' most of which are private requiring password admission. thepiratebay.org is a large public tracker site, and btjunkie.org searches public torrents.

Anyway, unless you have a minimum number of seeds, BT isn't worth the time and trouble. Good for getting a pirated copy of Adobe Creative Suite or Lady Gaga CDs, not so hot for sending your film around...
