Aaron, right you are about bit depth but not sure I completely agree
2K is always sufficient;
it appears that way with electronic and digital source material, even
digital master of some 35mm sources but if you've seen for instance
65/70mm sourced material @ 4K it has a graduation and smooothness
that's remarkable, it can get beyond the oversharpened edge look of
HD.
Also you can stand right in front of the screen and it is sharp.
