Date: Fri Sep 17 2010 - 05:33:25 PDT

Starting tomorrow, UnionDocs is back with it's regular weekend events. 322
Union Avenue, Brooklyn NY -- www.uniondocs.org

Saturday will be Star Spangled to Death Day with experimental pioneer Ken
Jacobs, featuring his 6 hour and 40 minute epic avant-garde political
documentary. Come to this all-day event starting at 1:30pm, and join us for
a Star Spangled Supper (something easy like pizzas, which we'll order and
split) at the midway point in our new backyard with Jacobs and friends.
Jacobs will be joined by J. Hoberman, who ranked SSTD as his top film of
2004, for a wrap-up discussion. As a bonus for anyone who spends the day
with us, Jacobs will give a downtown walking tour of select Star Spangled to
Death locations on a date to be determined. Not right after the screening.
 Presented with Electronic Arts Intermix.

Sunday we welcome Stefanie Schulte Strathaus from Arsenal, Germany's top
organization for film and video art organization, to present WHAT WAS HERE
BEFORE? This smart collection of shorts investigates when and how does
absence turn into presence? It also connects places in East and West; New
York, Berlin and Warsaw. Shanghai and Venice. Featuring an array of work
from Dieter Hormel and Brigitte Bühler, Niklas Goldbach, Gunter Krüger,
Judith Hopf, Natascha Sadr Haghighian, Florian Zeyfang, Yael Bartana,
Martin Ebner, Tim Blue, and Paul Rowley, and Shelly Silver. Rowley and
Silver in attendance for discussion with Schulte Strathuas. Show underway
at 7:30pm
