question about HDV to 16mm film transfer

The visual difference between HDV compression and DV compression, if
any, depends on the subject being shot.

There isn't a 4:3 variety of HDV, so you'll have to shoot it 16:9 and
crop it. You'll still get a nice rez increase over SD.

The big thing we would need to know to give you better advice is: what
camcorder will you be using for the video footage? They all have
different strengths and weaknesses, and the best plan for your project
will vary depending on the hardware involved.

Also, can you be more specific about this dark think you're shooting
and why you can't use fast film stock and/or throw some light on it?
Is it evenly dark, or are there some areas of highlight?
