A note of clarification prompted by offline query:
The questions I posted were sincere questions prompted by my reading of Peter Gidal's contribution to the volume of artists' writing edited by Jackie Hatfield and called Experimental Film and Video: An Anthology (John Libbey Publishing, 2006). Having nobody else to ask, I posted them. Gidal has read the list, even if there is little chance he himself responds. Responses by any others would be welcome.
