Betreff: RIP Gary Beydler

Very sad to report that Gary Beydler has died.

Many of you will know his incredible short silent films Pasadena Freeway
Stills and Hand Held Day. He authored a few others as well (Mirror, Los
Ojos, Glass Face, and Venice Pier), all of which have an incredible beauty
and delicacy to them, and a deeply lucid and poetic understanding of film
and cinema. His films are very careful, but very exuberant, but also
quietly and humbly poetic, and he used the very basic qualities of the
medium to create profoundly moving works. Although he moved on from
filmmaking in about 1977 and never returned to it, it's certainly a
testament to his qualities as an artist that his films continue to show and
inspire to this day.
