METAMKINE at the Alliance Francaise
Please plan to drop everything and come see the marvelous Metamkine perform live at the French Institute Alliance Francaise in Manhattan this Friday, September 18th. It is a really rare stateside visit in a large theater, their first show in NYC since 1994. Based in Grenoble, Metamkine are one musician (Jerome Noetinger) and two filmmakers (Christophe Auger and Xavier Querel) who have been creating complex, confounding, lyrical and incredibly lovely “expanded cinema” pieces together since the late 80s. Jerome is a modern day master of musique concrete and their awesome array of projectors and images is completely unique. Working with a core narrative, the three artists create a series of impromptu situational vignettes accompanied by a live soundtrack of tape fragments and analog synthesizer sounds. Through the use of mirrors, multiple projectors, and ingenious on-stage editing, the group produces and directs a stunning live film experience. No two
