Sounds normal, they were mis titled. The should have called a "Warm
Splicer".
They even work as a cold splicer, just takes longer by a couple of
seconds.
It was a marketing ploy, Hot Splicer sound more sexy than Warm Splicer.
It was hot seller. They made a killing. It splices, it dices, you can
flip the baby in the bathtub...... and you got some bonus items with it.
Some even did 16mm, Reg 8mm, and Super 8mm, all on one unit.
I miss Acetate!
and the smell of film cement in the morning....
