About every six months this comes up and I post that, in San Francisco, one can walk into a joint called Bearing Agencies and pick up belts/gaskets for a song. Seriously, sometimes they've just handed me the thing and said "pay me later" cuz the hassle of typing up an invoice was too much for them (the things are like 79 cents each). You can either bring in your old belt or bring in an appropriately sized loop of string. They are not a projector joint; they just sell loops of rubber to anyone who asks. They sometimes ask "Are you sealing or driving?"

It's likely that many cities have similar belt/gasket supply houses.
