Obscure traditions in Romantic Painting

Please Help!

I'm trying to locate the proper name of a tradition in Romantic painting.
These works feature lush natural scenes but are framed usually by large
stage curtains, as if to draw attention to the paintings as representations.
It is a kind of tromp-l'oeil, but has its own distinct tradition and ( I
believe) term. One of these paintings appeared on the cover of Dave Eggers
"Hearbreaking Work of Staggering Genius."

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
