I guess it goes like this. If music is the arrangement of sound for
purposes more aesthetic than narrative, then what do we call the
arrangement of visuals for such purposes. I haven't been able to
think of a better name -- and I do try to spend more time doing the
art than figuring out what it should be called.

When I do live improv performances, I do try to respond to the
phrases of the musicians I am working with, and think of myself as a
band member who plays a visual instrument instead of an audio
instrument.

Hope that makes some sense.
