DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS

Chicago Filmmakers seeks a Director of Programs to oversee and manage its
education, exhibition, and membership programs. This is a full-time,
salaried position. Chicago Filmmakers is a 34 year-old not-for-profit media
arts organization and is one of the leading media arts organizations in the
country.

Chicago Filmmakers offers classes in many aspects of film and digital video
production and post-production. Chicago Filmmakers also provides services to
the local independent filmmaking community through equipment access, fiscal
sponsorship, and other services. Chicago Filmmakers showcases the work of
independent filmmakers through its weekly exhibition program. The Director
of Programs will manage and work towards the development and advancement of
these programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Director of Programs is responsible for all aspects of Chicago
Filmmakers' educational program, including developing courses; evaluating
instructor proposals and teacher performance; preparing class budgets;
scheduling classes; recruiting, interviewing, and hiring instructors;
maintaining classrooms and facilities; ordering class supplies and
equipment; managing class registration; and fielding public inquiries. The
Director of Programs will also oversee membership and filmmaker services,
including developing new member benefits; processing member applications;
handling equipment rentals; seeing to equipment maintenance; evaluating film
production proposals for fiscal sponsorship; managing fiscal sponsorship
services; and maintaining records and databases. The Director of Programs
coordinates Chicago Filmmakersą exhibition programs, working with a team of
curators to select, book and schedule programs. Additionally, duties include
managing the screenings, hiring and scheduling projectionists (and
projecting when necessary), introducing programs, and overseeing print
inspection and print traffic. The Director of Programs will market and
publicize Chicago Filmmakersą educational, membership, and exhibition
programs, including coordinating with graphic designers on print materials,
generating copy for email newsletters and the website, writing press
releases, distributing marketing materials, and contacting film critics and
the media. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have previous administrative, educational, film
programming, marketing, and/or not-for-profit experience; an undergraduate
or graduate degree in film/video production; working knowledge of film/video
production and equipment; working knowledge of Mac computers and
applications; the ability to manage different projects simultaneously; good
time management skills; the ability to work on deadline and pay close
attention to detail; good people management skills; and good writing skills.
Teaching experience is highly desirable. It is also desirable that
candidates have their own vehicle.

The Director of Programs position is a full-time, salaried position,
available immediately. Benefits include paid vacation and medical. Salary is
commensurate with experience.

Film Festival Operations Manager

The Film Festival Operations Manager is a key organizing position
responsible for the management and smooth running of Reeling 2008: The 27th
Chicago Lesbian & Gay International Film Festival. Reeling is the second
oldest lesbian and gay film festival in the world and is a project of
Chicago Filmmakers, a 34 year-old non-profit media arts organization. The
festival takes place November 6-15, 2008.

This is a full-time temporary contract position starting immediately and
continuing through November 21st. This is a salaried position and overtime
hours, including weekend and evening hours, are to be expected. Salary is
commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include overseeing festival venues, ticketing, box office,
and theatre management; handling logistics for special events; coordinating
communications systems; arranging artist transportation and lodging;
assisting with promotional outreach, including distribution of marketing
materials and community outreach; recruiting, training, and managing
volunteers; and other duties as assigned. The Operations Manager will hire
and train box office and other temporary operations staff.

Qualifications:

This position requires someone who is highly organized, multi-task oriented,
able to manage logistics and people, and to act effectively under pressure.
Preferred applicants are those with previous film festival or other types of
special event management or volunteer/staff management experience and/or
film production managers.

Film Festival Marketing & Public Relations Director

The Marketing and Public Relations Director is responsible for all aspects
of marketing and promoting Reeling 2008: The 27th Chicago Lesbian & Gay
International Film Festival. Reeling is the second oldest lesbian and gay
film festival in the world and is a project of Chicago Filmmakers, a 34
year-old non-profit media arts organization. The festival takes place
November 6-15, 2008.

This is a full-time temporary contract position starting immediately and
continuing through at least November 21st. This is a salaried position and
overtime hours, including weekend and evening hours, are to be expected.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include developing and coordinating the production of all
festival marketing materials (newsprint schedule, postcards, posters,
invitations, program book), including working with graphic designers and
printers, securing photos, writing film descriptions as well as other
promotional copy, and coordinating and editing copy with other writers on
the programming committee. The Marketing Director will also be responsible
for overseeing the content and development of the website and coordinating
advertising and promotional outreach. This job will also entail writing and
disseminating press releases and email newsletters; producing, duplicating
and distributing press information, photo CDs, and clip reels; arranging
preview screenings by film critics; setting up press interviews; and
generating radio, television, and print coverage of the festival. The
Marketing Director will supervise marketing and public relations interns.
The Marketing Director will compile and write a detailed marketing report
after the festival.

Qualifications:

We are seeking applicants with excellent copywriting skills and creative
marketing ideas who can engender a sense of excitement about the festival.
Must be energetic, enthusiastic, accurate with details, and able to work
effectively within tight deadlines. Must have marketing, promotions, public
relations or related experience, as well as experience working with graphic
and/or web designers. Previous film festival experience highly desired.
Knowledge of Macintosh applications, especially Photoshop, preferred.
Familiarity with local and national press outlets an asset.
