Film and Video Transfer Center on South Van Ness at 15th(?) in SF does passable work, from what i hear.
i've been researching s8 transfer places for my current project, and the best two i could find (based on referral, and speaking with the technicians) are Flying Spot in Seattle, which was previously mentioned) and Spectra Film and Video in LA. for the latter speak with doug.
guy maddin had Flying Spot transfer his last super 8 feature, for whatever that's worth. and Spectra used a custom-made super 8 gate, and claims that other places use a modified 16mm gate. i still haven't decided which to use but will post my results at some point in the winter or early spring.
