Yeah good point Tom.

The chart Esther posted seems a good starting point; I've never done
more than 4 or 5 I think (as far as overall exposure goes -- I
remember doing 8 or 10 candle flames in a pattern etc).

(I find layering and adjusting opacities in FCP seductive now.....)

Still, doing stuff in camera is cool.
