i can't tell if these particular rules are a good thing or not - it
in part depends on how they're enforced. but bringing this into the
public debate/eye is a good thing. both for our shared culture in
making us think what should be allowed - who 'owns' and how do we
define and use 'our public space' and from a more practical point of
view.

i don't know how many times i've been told point blank and
aggressively that i can't shoot in a certain public place. if i can
have a piece of paper with the rules in my hand to give to someone to
make them get out of my face (here i'm not talking about a cop, all
bets are off w/cops) this is a good thing. and there will be times i
won't have to do this, as a few of them may have read the nytimes
article.

cheers,
shelly
