For the last five or so years I've been working on art works based on
multiple photographs. The idea is even older, that of combining still
photos to create a space in a way that's somewhat cinematic. I'm finding
that multiple still photos can evoke space and time as well as the
moving image can, but with more freedom left for the viewer.
What I took from cinema, both avant-garde and classical narrative, is
the way that images over time build a particular way of seeing space in
Only recently have I started to show them to people other than a few
friends, and to seek exhibits. I have 16 pieces from one series
currently up at FLATFILEgalleries, Chicago, through October 26. My first
one person show opens at Beyond Baroque in the Los Angeles area, Venice
to be precise, on October 19, 7 PM to 9 PM, and will be up through
December 15. That should include a lot of different work.
The work looks best in actual prints. Still, everything is on my site,
along with more info on the shows: http://www.fredcamper.com/A/
