It's kind of the opposite approach (turning a movie *into* a set of
instructions), but conceptual artist Helen Mirra has done some
interesting projects, including turning Battleship Potemkin and
Keaton's Navigator into terse descriptions printed on 35mm strips of
fabric (graphically representing durations of shots, etc) sewn
together and hung around the room.
