I'm another person who met Helen at Ann Arbor a few years ago. It was a
crucial time for me, deciding I wanted to make films, and seeing Helen's
work and exuberance was profoundly inspiring. I remember she ran out of
copies of the "Recipes" book, but made a point of taking down my address to
send me a copy. She mailed it right after the festival, along with a sweet
hand-written note. I didn't get to know her well, but it is so clear that
Helen was a beacon of creative energy, kindness and warmth--I'll miss her
presence in the world.
