Hey,

The base of color neg. film is orange. So when you go to print it, the labs settings are set up to see that orange as no color at all. If you don't have that base orange, then it will shift your color towards the blue/cooler side of things. How much I'm not exactly sure. You can get orange mask -- "clear leader" for color -- from a lab and probably from editorial supply companies if you want to do some a/b comparisons.
