I don't know the movie, but there was once such a club (long gone) on
Williamson Road in Roanoke, Virginia - I remember it from the 1960's. It
was called the Telephone Lounge, but it was far from swank. Nowadays the
idea seems so quaint - but you could still do it, using cell phones! (Give
me a call sometime....)

Phones on supper club tables

A research question for a book I'm writing: I once saw a 1930s or 40s
Hollywood movie in which there were telephones on tables in a swank supper
club, and patrons could call people at other tables across the room. If
you know the title of this film, or someone who might know, or a listserv
more appropriate than this one for such a question, please contact me.
