ceapix,
while those codec packs and alternatives do a great job playing various formats for the user who needs to view uncommon formats, I think compatibility is the most important issue to be concerned with if you are going to make video content available on the internet for a broad audience (and the internet is pretty broad, to say the least). I doubt that viewers will be willing to download a huge codec pack in order to view a website, more likely they will just skip over it. I know I've come across sites saying I needed plugins that took forever to download and often I would just skip the download. One must find the most compatible compression codec/presentation that also maintains an acceptable level of image quality and size.

Maļa, while i-h264 may be the best looking, you may alienate most windows users who have not downloaded the new player, and seeing as how most of the world is comprised of windows users you may lose a significant portion of your audience. perhaps an alternate download if you have the space or recompressing in a more compatible codec would help, but then again I think quicktime 7 is catching on with windows users too, so something to consider. for anyone interested in putting video content on the internet, here are two articles that are nice reads:

(page 3 summarizes the most popular codecs)
