hi john,
yes. someday. soon. my main focus is always trying
to acquire new data sources. I got an email from
them (fcoop) and there was some tentative plan
to meet and talk
about their existing database system, and in
coming up w/ a method for them to pull data from
their in house system to help port to their website
database. the lead on their side was at a conference
that particular week, and since then I dropped the
ball. I'd thought to work w/ them to get their
issues worked out, and then push new data into my
version of their database, and then push into
the filmmaker's list.
since then, I've worked on a series of other databases,
and right now am focusing on trying to get out
the Video Texts 1983 list of videos/performances,
that was spoken of here a few days ago. I'm in the
middle of it as I'm writing.
I also got the ok from lightcone (christophe bichon)
to push their data into the fmkr's list.
The issue w/ that is that much of their descriptions
are in french. not that I mind just putting in the french,
but there are a handful of online translation
utilities on the net that I can script, and then eyeball,
but I keep looking at it as a project that I'm going
to do shortly. I thought that would be a nice addition
to the data and want to try my hand at it.
after lightcone, I want to add lux. and after lux
there are a few more: Collectif Jeune Cinema, Sixpack,
and DeFilm.
aside from this, I'm going to go to montreal on tuesday,
the 6th, staying until the 12th. Its mainly for vacation,
but I will work w/ anyone there who is interested in
working w/ me on anything I can help them w/, at all.
so, whats beginning to happen is that the projects I'm
working on are beginning to mount up and give me that
unsurmountable feeling, and then what happens is the
opposite and that I don't do anything, but think of
all the work to do, and then I watch a movie or read an
essay or surf and this and that, not getting anything
done. Instead of working on Video Texts, tonight, I
sat down and watched 3+ hours of Andrei Rublev and
listened to Beethoven, and stared out the window at
Brooklyn, then I started looking at the US Gov't's
"Our National Strategy for Victory in Iraq" ...
This happens to me for some reason. When there's
so much I want to do, I just start to space out.
... plus I have another really interesting database that I
want to release. I have all the data and have it
all parsed, I just haven't written the program for it.
I'm also starting a full time in mid december, which is
seriously going to curtail all my "volunteer" work,
which is kinda depressing me a bit ... but this is
going to give me some extra funding to pursue the
next series of things I want to do, which is to
purchase a film scanner and hd blu-ray disc recorder,
and hopefully then work w/ frameworkers in archiving
and releasing hd versions of their work. I'm
hoping to have that up and running (at least an
early experimental version of it) by spring. By
fall of next year, I'm hoping to have enough cash in
hand and reason enough to do it,
to purchase some kind of film recorder, so that I
can provide full DI services to the experimental
community ...
anyway, those are my sort of short-term plans,
and I'll work w/ ANYONE who is interested in making
any of these dreams happen as a good and
open and inexpensive but high-quality alternative.
so, those are some of my plans of things to come
& etc ...
