Newspaper coverage of experimental film

Manohla Dargis is a great supporter of alternative work. Back when she was
still at the LA Times, she wrote an article for the Calendar Weekend section
(which runs on Thursdays) about experimental film artists in Los Angeles,
and Pat OıNeill was actually on the cover of the section! I think that you
will continue to see articles from her in the NY Times about such work.

The L.A Weekly and the Village Voice both have cut their column inches for
reviews of alternative screenings. Scott Foundas is another great supporter
of the work, but the Weekly only has space for 1-3 events per week now, when
it used to have a page or so that could cover almost everything in town.
The ³alternative² ³weaklies² are more concerned with having full reviews of
the major Hollywood films instead of alternative events, But itıs clearly a
mandate from editors & business people higher up.

Kevin Thomas does occasional write-ups in the LA Times.
Otherwise, of course, coverage is dismal.
