Re: Canyon/NYCoop/CFMDC Catalogues Online and Searchable

Hi John,

My apologies. My note was rude, and I could have found a better tone and
said it more productively. It's a good dream, and within the realm of the
possible.

What we are trying to do on the LA Filmforum web page (under Links) is link
to what appear to be web pages for various artists. I don't expect ours
will ever be complete; all of the others that you mention are more likely to
have a greater list of artists.

I think the key would be supporting a real home page with bio & filmography
for each artist. Such a page would only need to be done once. Each of the
distributor sites could then link to that same page. This already happens
to some degree, with several different sites linking to one home page. It
just would require more time to enter the links, the existence of up-to-date
home pages for the artists, active links. It is just labor (plus creativity
for the web site designs), but it is certainly plausible.

There are some people of course who aren't online, to the best of my
knowledge (Kenneth Anger for example). So someone would have to keep a site
for each of these people. E.g., Fred Camper's Brakhage pages.

There was a site that was trying to be an encyclopedia of experimental film
artists.
Ah, here's one:
http://cinovid.org/

No time right now to see its currency, but that's the idea.

Again, my apologies.

Best regards,

Adam
