I spoke with Helen Hill last night. She and her family are back in NOLA & in
the process of gutting to rebuild their house. They have the flood and mold
damage you've all heard about but she's optimistic about getting it together
and seems determined to stay. I don't have an address, but she's staying
with family in town while she and Paul do the recovery work. I don't have
any idea how internet access is working where she is, they have a phone line
but she said that the telecommunication system was still funky. Her email
address is: email suppressed
As John mentioned, she had the same questions that were part of an earlier
blog regarding restoration and maint. of water and mold damaged film. What
hasn't been totally consumed by mold, she is (in her unique style) hand
washing in a gentle soap solution and rinsing in filtered water. When she
called, she was tumbling the film in a dryer, which I immediately cautioned
her against. If any one here has advice about cleaning & etc. - I'm sure
she'd gladly accept any help you can give her.
Charles, my impression is that she probably has no copies of the Cookbook
that aren't damaged. I'll contact her to sort out the logistics of
re-mastering the cook book from one of the copies I have. For those of you
interested in getting a copy of the aptly named, 'Recipes For Disaster: a
handcrafted film cookbooklet'. Contact me off-line so I can get a tally
before setting this process in motion.
