...my parents were hippies, and i grew up in san
francisco, so i 1) find jennifer's imitation of a
hippie funny and apt 2) can explain the etymology of
"bogart" even though i'm not an "elder." as far as i
know, hippies used "bogart" as slang-- starting with a
song which included the lyric, "don't bogart that
joint, my friend, pass it along to meeee..." because
bogart, as everyone knows, kept his cigarette in his
mouth. like, all the time. he talked with it on his
lip. he didn't use his hands. he would never have
given anybody else a drag off of it, etc...
i will have to ask my folks to remind me of who did
the song. it's up there with "bette davis eyes" as
one of my favorite popcult film-in-song references...
