The difference is, Cari is not trying to lay out rules for what people
should/ shouldn't say, how they should/ shouldn't say it. She is
reacting to a piece of controversial artwork in a strong way. And
Leslie herself agreed that the controversy was within the work, and
that strong opinions were welcome. Cari never in essence told anyone to
shut up. But to beat a dead horse, the old manipulative technique of
making people feel that they are not qualified to speak, either because
they can't spell, they can't keep their emotions under control, they
haven't done their homework, their arguments are not exhaustive
therefore can't be taken seriously, etc., is a form of pretty obvious,
not very original, very transparent, but also very effective strategy
of silencing and one-upsmanship.
