As a follow up, I should note that I found a gentleman in Milwaukee
(went by the name of Crazy Uncle Trotsky) who specialized in antique
stereo repair and was able to track down parts to repair cables on my
auricon. I would try camera shops as well as stereo repair if you are
looking to modify the amp to run on A/C power.
