Yes, you can use an ELC in place of an EJL w/o a problem.

If the lamp is having trouble igniting (it flickers on/off), and cannot
arrive at the proper color temp (5000K) then its getting to the end of its
life. EZG lamps are spendy new (some as much as $175), however you can
find them on eBay as they are handled by medical supply companies.
