I was suprised to see someone mention USC.

as a USC grad I should point out USC is far more friendly to
experimental work on the historical / theory side of things, David
James is great and teaches a wonderful course on avant-garde cinema but
its not a production class. Dana Polan who translated Deleuze on Kafka
is there and is also great as are a few others. A couple of the better
teachers interested in the avant-garde have left USC over the past few
semesters as well.

On the production side expirmental film is almost completely invisable.
There are a few who do experimental work here and there and some
semesters find experimental oriented teachers subbing for low level
production courses but the program is not geared towards, nor does it
really support expirmental work. Unless of course your idea of
experimental is doing a lot of compositing on HD.
