Yes. I completely agree.
They are different things, with utterly different histories, forms and modes of presentation. That was my point, as was that the video art approach is quickly replacing the avant-garde film one, not just as a technology, but as an entire tradition and approach to making motion pictures. I think this is happening because the avant-garde film world has been "hung up" on the film aspect of its tradition, with the result that the younger, (and less articulate generally), video art tradition has simply replace it for all the reasons we've been talking about. Changing this is going to take a lot of work.
