ONLINE EXHIBITIONS
The Study Collection is pleased to announce its new series of Online
Exhibitions.
'Defining Filmaktion' curated by Lucy Reynolds explores the origins,
objectives and output of the 1970s film and performance
artists who exhibited together as Filmaktion. The exhibition includes
over thirty rare images and documents relating to the work
of William Raban, Annabel Nicolson, Malcolm Le Grice and Gill Eatherley
among others.
'Image is Everything' curated by Esther Johnson investigates the ways
that film and video artists have represented their moving
image work through defining still images. Over forty images are
featured, representing the wide range and variety of British
Artists’ film and video works.
This series of Online Exhibitions has been made possible with the
assistance of the Arts Council of England.
RESEARCH PAPERS
The Study Collection is happy to publish academics’ and artists’
research papers relating to British artists' film and video. Two
recently submitted papers are now online.
'Story, Script and the Spaces in Between' by Sarah Turner considers the
unfulfilled potential of script to explore repetition and
variation, rhythm, musicality and above all, abstraction.
'An Analysis of the soundtrack in the work of Malcolm Le Grice' in which
Orlene Denice McMahon redresses the relative lack
of consideration of the manipulation and function of sound in
avant-garde film concentrating in particular on Malcolm Le Grice's
work.
STUDY COLLECTION CATALOGUES
The website also contains comprehensive catalogues of the Study
Collection’s holdings of materials available to researchers,
including artists’ video, image and document collections, a complete
list of all publications, magazines and artists' monographs
and links to information about artists' film and video organizations and
events.
DATABASE OF KNOWN ARTISTS AND WORKS
The searchable database aims to provide information about all known film
and video artists' works to 2000.
