If you are going to DV I'll bet you're are not going to have a very good
telecine bay either. Here is one trick to help you in terms of color. I don't
know if you can do this in Avid but After Effects and FCP both have a
"multiply" transfer mode option. You can put the same video clip on both V1 and V2
set the transfer mode of V2 to Multiply and then bring down the opacity of V2
until you get the look you like, this will help bring back a lot of the color
you are going to loose, and it will also help restor your blacks. This trick
works best on clips that are fairly bright tonally and is often much better
than cranking up the saturation or adding color in color correction. I would say
that you should leave a few days in your post schedule for just this kind of
tweeking and expirmenting above and beyond color correction. Also you may
want to check out the books on color correction for DV I think they might have
some info you will find helpful, assuming that you are not already a color
expert.
good luck to you.
