hey everybody,
i must suck. i show my work at our monthly screening whenever i have a new
piece-- generally i make a new piece specifically for that show-- say 8 or
so times a year. i've been working with steve boyle who creates live sound
for our films for over 4 years, so there's a performance aspect to the whole
thing, the films are only shown once, i only show in pittsburgh, and i very
rarely show any place here except for our thing. the only chances to show
that i use are one's i make myself. the opportunity to show whenever has
opened my filmmaking up and transformed the way i work. i won't horn in on
someone's solo show, a visiting artist, or a guest curator's show unless
they specifically ask me to show. there is also a fistful of local artists
who have an open invitation to show whatever/ and almost whenever they want,
and we try to give greg pierce of the orgone archives here in town at least
one show per year. we try to include some local work in every show, and
sometimes, it's just me. i never take any money from the door, i never
include my name on posters or handbills, and my showing never bumps another
local.
yours defensively,
aa
