16 mag in the .5 mil thickness is the best quality.

FPC ($49 per 1200'; no price break for volume purchase); Saphire made
by/for The Film Connection ($45/1200'; $43ea for 10); Nuvo and MPC brands
are sold through J&R Film Company ($40/1200'; $38 ea for 10).

I noticed that Saphire went up $5 (from $40) in the last month, while FPC
went down $3 (from $52 to 49). Mag in general is not getting cheaper, and
has been climbing steadily. I'm pretty sparing with the stuff, and will
cut what I can in the computer before transferring to mag.

====================================

Just to follow-up on my comments above. J&R still lists MPC and Nuvo in
their catalogue of film supplies, but one would need to call to verify
what they have in stock. Also, EEPCo has some mag left in there inventory.
I think its mostly MPC brand.

Whatever you end up using you have to bias the heads of the recorder to
the stock you've selected. (As an aside you want to make certain the heads
of the recorder are aligned properly.)
