My experience is this:
If you're shooting and projecting at 18fps (yes, it's possible to project a
this speed) then you'll notice that you'll get a kind of pulsing of the
image. To get around this, I set my DV camera (a Sony PC110e, using the
'digital effect' setting) to SLOW SHUTTER, but on the very 'least' of the
settings, which takes the frame rate down to approx 25fps. This seems to
smooth out the pulsing. Try shooting at 24fps if you can and projecting at
that speed and fiddling with the same settings.
It may be wise also to lock your exposure to a manual setting on the DV cam
so that it doesn't 'jump' between light and dark scenes - this takes some
time to work out the best 'average' but can be worth the bother.
If you spend some time over this whole process, it's possible to get some
really good results. If you can find a S8 projector that has a 'real time'
adjustable projection speed ie anything between 3fps and 24fps, dial
controlled (I think some of the PRINZ models have this) then you're laughing
...
Good luck!
Matt
