I think the transfer is very well done on the Short Cinema Journal
version, the only video version I've seen. Quite beautiful, actually.
I did have a strange feeling there was a slight difference in the
editorial structure of this version from the film print I saw at
Anthology or Film Forum a number of years back. At that screening--the
only time I've ever seen the film projected--I remember being
completely startled by the one non-still scene in the film. It was,
perhaps, the most tangible moment of voyeurism I've ever felt watching
a film. That scene literally took my breath away as I felt completely
like I was "caught looking."

Do you know if the English and French versions are edited differently,
Keith? That would explain why the DVD version seemed different than
the film version I saw.

I guess that makes three versions...

As an aside, much time has passed since I looked at the Short Cinema
disc, but if I remember correctly there is a pretty wonderful Guy
Maddin piece included.
