That's just it. Non-narrative music is an accepted form of mainstream
entertainment.

Not so with non-narrative moving images. As long as mainstream (American)
film/video is held under the tyranny of conventional narrative structure,
visual sampling will never be popular. Of course, the exception is the
music video genre-- the commercial appropriator/usurper of all experimental
film techniques.
