Several "region free" players also convert PAL to NTSC. The cheaper/older
ones tend to have a problem playing Region 2 anamorphic/widescreen discs
correctly.
It's worth the investment to find good region free/PAL conversion players
(and you can find other bells and whistles, such as eliminating
macrovision, if you look hard enough.) Without one, I would not be able to
enjoy my BFI Peter Greenaway early films discs.
Of course, some people like Miramax don't want you to buy discs outside of
your region, and have gone after importers who sell them. See "MiramAXE
