Perfectly Key Sub-Lime
'Perfect' for me is less a term to describe, categorize or codify a concept,
aesthetic, or ideology, but express a feeling upon viewing any given work at
any given moment. It's possible that I may feel a work is more or less
perfect on any given day.
With less than 3 weeks to go before I shoot my first narrative, I find
myself turning to works of poetic realism for inspiration. I've
re-discovered Jean Cocteau's 'Orpheus', and have sustained a sublime state
of perfection in my relationship to it thru two continuous screenings.
There is nothing I cherish more than those rare moments when I am
viewing/experiencing a work of art--in any medium--and I slip into a state
where I cannot feel my skin, and I am floating in that space between
observation and interpretation--Cocteau's nether world between life and
death, the realm of poetry.
(Experimental) Film happens to engender/facilitate that state for me more
than any other medium.
I'd appreciate any recommendations of favorite works of Poetic Realism.

PS: Of course a jello-mulched print of Julie Christie's 'Darling' would be
perfectly yummy. Jello flavor? Sub-Lime.
